Our Top 3 Recommendations
If you have a PC built around an Nvidia RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Ti, it’s important to choose the right monitor. These graphics cards are powerful, expensive pieces of hardware, so you don’t want to waste their potential on a monitor that won’t do these cards any justice.
There are two types of monitor I would recommend for either of these cards:
- A 1440p 144hz (or higher refresh rate) monitor is ideal for fast paced gaming. 1440p is quite a step up from 1080p and you will have the benefit of a high refresh rate too. Essentially, this will give you great alround performance with both a high definition picture and smooth performance. Personally, this would be my choice for a monitor to pair with an RTX 2080 or 2080 Ti.
- A 4k 60hz monitor is ideal if you would rather have the best quality visuals. If you’re not too bothered about having the smoothest experience (let’s say you mainly play slower paced, immersive games like The Witcher 3), then a 4K monitor would be perfect to pair with an RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Ti.
Another option would be to go with a 1080p 240hz monitor. I wouldn’t recommend this though because the difference between 144hz and 240hz won’t be as noticeable as the resolution increase between 1080p and 1440p. However, if you really do want those extra hertz for an insanely high framerate, check out the ASUS ROG Swift PG258Q .
Best Monitors for Nvidia RTX 2080 & RTX 2080 Ti
Hopefully, you now have a good idea of which type of monitor you should be looking for. Now I will run you through our recommended models and try to help you find the best monitor to suit your needs.
Best for Most People – Asus ROG Swift PG279QZ
- 27″ 1440p display
- 165hz refresh rate
- IPS panel
- 4ms response time
- G-Sync
For most people, the ideal monitor to pair with an RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Ti is a 1440p monitor with a high refresh rate.
The Asus ROG Swift PG279QZ fits the bill perfectly with a 1440p 165hz display. This monitor uses an IPS panel which have better colors than TN alternatives. The downside is a higher response time of 4ms which means you may experience some ghosting (motion blur). For most people, this won’t be a huge issue, but if you want every competitive edge you can get, the next monitor on our list features similar specs but uses a TN panel.
Since you are using an Nvidia graphics card, the G-Sync feature will come in useful to reduce screen tearing and provide a more pleasing experience.
Less Pretty, More Responsive – ASUS ROG Swift PG278QR
- 27″ 1440p display
- 165hz refresh rate
- TN panel
- 1ms response time
- G-Sync
The ASUS ROG Swift PG278QR is very similar to the PG279QZ, however, it uses a TN panel rather than an IPS panel. This means there will be less ghosting (motion blur) which will be beneficial if you play fast-paced shooters very competitively. The trade off is the colors are not as good.
For the average user, an IPS panel like the previous monitor on our list would be a better option.
If You Want Widescreen – Alienware AW3418DW
- 34.1″ 1440p curved widescreen display
- 120hz refresh rate
- IPS panel
- 4ms response time
- G-Sync
For a more immersive experience, you might want to consider a widescreen monitor like the Alienware AW3418DW.
This monitor also has a 1440p resolution, however there are of course more pixels since it is wider. This means it is harder to run than the previous monitors in our list since there are more pixels to process, but a powerful GPU like the RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Ti shouldn’t have any problems.
Like our top pick, the PG279QZ , this one features an IPS panel and G-Sync, however, the refresh rate is lower at 120hz so it won’t feel quite as smooth.
4K Without the Gamer Look – ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQ
- 27″ 4K display
- 60hz refresh rate
- IPS panel
- 4ms response time
- G-Sync
Now we’re moving on to 4K monitors. After switching from 60hz to 144hz, personally, I would always favor a higher refresh rate over a higher resolution. However, if you only play slower paced games, you might prefer the higher level of detail you get from a 4K monitor.
The ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQ does feature G-Sync which will help to smooth things out, and the IPS panel combined with the 4K resolution means the picture will really look beautiful, but just remember, it won’t feel anywhere near as smooth as the previous monitors on our list.
4K with the Gamer Look – Acer Predator XB321HK
- 32″ 4K display
- 60hz refresh rate
- IPS panel
- 4ms response time
- G-Sync
The Acer Predator XB321HK is very similar to the ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQ. The main difference is that this one is slightly larger at 32″ so you might want to consider this one if you have the space since 32″ is a nice size for a 4K monitor.
The other difference is the design. The XB321HK has more of a gamer feel to it when compared to the PG27AQ, so you might prefer one over the other depending on your personal preference on the design.
